You have to book in advance to tour this stunning 37-acre Montecito estate and nonprofit botanic garden. Once owned by the late Madame Ganna Walska, a well-known opera singer and socialite, she purchased the property in 1941 and spent the next 43 years transforming it into what is now recognized as one of the world’s best gardens.

8 Casa Del Herrero

TOUR: Casa Del Herrero

A throwback to Montecito as it was during the 1920s and 1930s, Casa del Herrero is often said to be one of Santa Barbara’s finest architectural landmarks and tours have to be arranged by phone or email in advance. Built in 1925, the 11-acre masterpiece, with extensive Moorish-style gardens, was designed by architect George Washington Smith.
