Unmissable Mykonos Restaurants

Mykonos's nickname is "The Island of the Winds." One of the top tourist destinations in Greece, it's famous for its whitewashed buildings and gay-friendly, hedonistic beach club culture that tends to divide all those who visit it into two camps: those who love it and those who spend the whole time bemoaning the astronomical prices. Once among the poorest, barest Greek islands, thanks to Jackie Kennedy's love affair with the island in the 1960's, it is now one of the glitziest, most cosmopolitan spots in the country. And, in terms of dining, it has it all. From local Aegean specialties to the best sashimi in town, here's our round up of where to go when in town.

1 scorpios-restaurant-mykonos

The epitome of chic beach club, Scorpios is a place to see and be seen. Reserve day beds and a late lunch, then see the sunset and people-watch as the party scene takes off. You'll see some of the most elegant beach fashion on earth.

Super Paradise

One of the busiest and trendiest beach clubs in Mykonos, Super Paradise Beach is not the place to go to if you want a chilled meal. There will parties, loud music, overpriced drinks and people dancing on the bar top.

4 interni-mykonos

A courtyard restaurant in the heart of Mykonos town, Interni gets busy and so you'll want to reserve in advance- we recommend a late 10pm-style dinner. The service is notoriously a little chaotic, but the decor and ambiance still makes it one of our favorite experiences in town.

5 nammos-mykonos

Nammos is one of Mykonos's most high-end beach clubs and the type of place Mariah Carey swings by when in town. Eye-wateringly expensive, 2 beach chairs cost 150 euros, a bottle of wine starts at 75.00 euros, and valet parking is 50 euros. That said, it's on one of the island's most beautiful beaches (Psarou) and it is without doubt an iconic 'only in Mykonos' experience.

Hippie Fish

A picturesque spot to eat grilled halloumi and watch the sun go down, Hippie Fish is an upmarket but relaxed restaurant and beach club (and incidentally the spot where ‘Shirley Valentine’ was filmed). Menu highlights include charcoal grilled fish, fresh sushi, taramasalata and calamari.

7 Bill & Coo’s Gourmet Restaurant-Mykonos

Bill & Coo Coast Suites

A serene oasis away from the crowds of Mykonos, it's hard to meet anyone with a bad word to say about staying at Bill & Coo but they also do delicious food too. We love to visit for lunch by the pool at Taverna, or, for a meal to remember, book in to Bill & Coo’s Gourmet Restaurant- which uses fresh, organic, local ingredients. Locals are campaigning for Executive Chef Ntinos Fotinakis to be Michelin Starred.

9 utopia_mykonos

Part of the Utopia Hotel, Utopia restaurant provides great food and great views. Set into the rock 300 metres above Elia beach, it's romantic and, unlike the rest of the island, which can be 'too cool for school', service is warm and welcoming.

Matsuhisa Mykonos

Situated inside the Belvedere, which describes itself as 'a petite Grand Hotel', Matsuhisa Mykonos is not called Nobu as it's not part of the official Nobu chain but it is by the same chef and it does serve the same signature dishes. Like most of Mykonos, it's not cheap, we prefer it for a light bite and a cocktail rather than a full meal but the setting is worth visiting once.
