This 1950's temple, shrine & lush meditation garden is a peaceful haven in the city...

Lake Shrine, Los Angeles

A magnet for Hollywood writers seeking quiet, or A-List celebrities needing to chill (Jessica Gardner was recently spotted there with her whole family), Lake Shrine was founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1950’s and is the ultimate spot in the city for deep peace. Founder Paramahansa Yogananda was a close confident of Mahatma Gandhi and erected the first monument in the world in honor of him here. A portion of Gandhi’s ashes are even kept inside a marble sarcophagus, on the grounds of the shrine. Go stroll, meditate, write and wander round the natural lake with white swans, beautiful gardens and Dutch windmill.
