Mahiki Kensington, London

Residing in the shadow of Kensington Palace, London’s new Mahiki brings its Tiki décor to a ‘more mature crowd.’ Made infamous in the 2000’s for its treasure chest cocktails and famous crowds (everyone from drunk royals to Paris Hilton), it’s now capitalising on the capital’s obsession with restaurants that turn into cool drink lounges/clubs- think Caza Cruz, nearby in Notting Hill. A partnership with Kensington members’ club Albert’s, the new Kensington space plays home to a Pan Asian restaurant, Pufferfish. With chef Sakorn Somboon (previously of Aqua Kyoto) in the kitchen, the menu features Chu Toro Tataki with red oil and chive – one of the signature raw dishes- as well as Wagyu Gunkan Black Truffle, Spicy Yellowfin Maki Rolls, Grilled Octopus, tempura and other classics. Once the last service is complete, tables and chairs are whisked away and Mahiki returns to its’ signature mode: music, dancing and treasure chests galore.
